We would like to enlighten some features of Lisbon as a centre of attraction:

• The city of Lisbon is located on the North bank of the river Tagus estuary, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Its legendary history stretches back over twenty centuries.

• For many centuries, Lisbon continues to be a place of cultural exchanges and the city entertains people coming from all over the world.

• In recent years, Lisbon has established itself as a prime location for hosting conference and ranks among the most favoured world destinations, providing with all the infrastructures and professionalism essential for successful organisation of scientific events.

• Lisbon is a safe and pleasant, medium size cosmopolitan city (having close to 1 million habitants in the city centre and 2.5 million in the metropolitan area), where the delegates and their companions will be well received and feel comfortable.

• Lisbon has a very good climate; in summer the weather is mostly sunny and dry, with temperature ranging between 16 to 30°C. It is a glorious city, having a wide range of cultural offers and well served transportation, facilitating easy access to foreign visitors.

• Most of the Portuguese expeditions of the Age of Discovery left from Lisbon.

Moving around Lisbon

Lisbon is served by an extensive network of public transportation that can take you anywhere in the city and to its surroundings.

Taxi

Taxis can be called by phone (Central táxis: +351 707455455, +351 800451010, Rádio Táxis: +351 218119000, Autocoope: +351 217932756, Cooptáxis: +351 217996475, Teletáxis: +351 218111100, Taxigal: +351 961532938), picked-up on taxi plazas or stopped on the street. The fare on the taxi meter, approximately, within Lisbon should read 0.5€ (per 1 km, daytime, minimum 3.25€ which is the initial charge) or 0.6€ (night time, minimum 3.90€). Outside Lisbon it increases to 0.95€ (daytime) or 1.15€ (night time). Before taking taxi inquire about the fare. If you call the taxi by phone, you will pay 0.80€ more; for luggage or pets additional 1.60€ applies and also tolls will be charged to you.

Metro

The Lisbon metro is very comfortable and easy way to reach most parts of the city, from 6:30 to 1:00. Metro stations close to the Conference venue are:Reusable Transport Card

• Alameda (red and green line)

• Saldanha (red and yellow line)

You will have to pay 0.50€ for a reusable transport card

Note that the zapping tariff is also valid for buses, trams, Fertagus train and ferry.
You can add money in Zapping from 3€ to 40€ and use it around Lisbon.

Bus and Tram

The bus routes cover all Lisbon and extend to its outskirts. There are several bus stations close to the Conference venue.

• Arco Cego (routes 713, 716, 720, 726, 742, 767)

etc.

Suburban Train

Suburban trains to Estoril and Cascais depart from the Cais do Sodré train station while to Sintra the trains depart from Rossio or Entrecampos. The ride to Sintra or Cascais should take about 45 min, each way.

Fertagus

Fertagus is a suburban train crossing the river Tagus through the 25 de Abril bridge, allowing a magnificent view of Lisbon. The closest station to the conference venue is Entrecampos station.

Ferry

You can use ferry (only PT) to cross the river Tagus. Boats leave from Cais do Sodré station.
