Getting to Lisbon by air

     

Direct flights from most of the European cities, North or South America and Africa land at the Portela Airport, terminal 1. You may avail Portuguese airline flights TAP, which is a member of the Star Alliance group.

     

Taxi stop is located right in front of the arrival building. A taxi ride to one of the Recommended Hotels or to the Conference Venue is about 4-5 km that takes around 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic, and would cost around 8-10€, plus 1.60€ for transportation of luggage or animals. You can use a prepaid taxi service, called the “Taxi Voucher” on sale at the “information desk” in the arrival terminal. Alternatively you can take a bus or a metro.

Metro Red Line can take you to conference venue at Alameda, but you need to change the line to reach one of the recommended hotels (1.3€ per ride + 0.5€ for the Reusable Transport Card, check the link Lisbon for more details).

AeroBus Line 1 can take you to one of the recommended hotels (3.5€ per ride).

City bus routes 705, 722, 744, 783 (day schedules) and 208 (night schedule) also stop at the airport, but sometimes it is not allowed to get on with heavy luggage (max 55x40x20cm).

 

Getting to Lisbon by car

Drivers coming from the north use highway A1 while those coming from East and South use highway A2 to reach Lisbon through the 25 de Abril bridge or may use A12 and enter via Northeast of Lisbon through the Vasco da Gamma bridge. The speed limits in Portugal are 120km/h on highways, 90km/h on roads and 50km/h in urban areas, unless marked otherwise. By car the driving distance to Porto is about 3h, to Algarve 3h, to Seville 5h and to Madrid 8h.

 

Getting to Lisbon by train

The Santa Apolónia station is the terminal for trains arriving from the North of Portugal. The southbound trains depart from the Barreiro train station; across the Tagus river (a ferry must be used). Although trains from Paris, Madrid or Vigo reach Lisbon, but these are not recommended unless you are prepared for a very long ride. Taxi stop is located right in front the Santa Apolónia station building. A taxi ride to one of the recommended hotels or to the conference venue is about 6 km that takes around 20 min, depending on traffic, and should cost around 12€, plus 1.60€ for transportation of luggage or animals.
